But what really made the author wrote this book?

“I wanted to create something that made readers laugh while delivering a quiet, hidden lesson about life, whether it’s about determination, acceptance, or self-belief. “_Erin Martinez

The author, a young and imaginative mind, has always been captivated by the magic of illustrated children’s book. With “I am a Butterfly”, she set out to create a story that would not only elicit laughter but also gently encourage children to embrace their unique qualities. Her inspiration struck while she was sketching, when a little slug character emerged on the page. Intrigued, she pondered what outlandish ambition this tiny creature could possibly harbor, and the image of a slug longing to fly like a butterfly instantly sparked her imagination.

This seemingly impossible dream serves as a metaphor for the universal feeling of wanting to be someone different, something many children and teens experience. The author cleverly uses the slug’s journey to explore themes of self-discovery and the realization that true happiness lies in accepting oneself. Along the way, the slug’s supportive friends play a crucial role, highlighting the significance of companionship and understanding. This book will remind us that it’s okay to be different and that our unique qualities are what make us special.

At just 14 years old, the author is thrilled to share her creation with the world. She hopes that her book will inspire young readers to pursue their passions, no matter how unconventional they may seem. More importantly, she wants children to understand that self-love and self-acceptance are the keys to true happiness.

At the young age, what do you think is her advice for the young generations who want to write like her?

“Don’t chase trends or try to write what you think other people want to read. Start with a story or idea that genuinely excites you, whether it’s sketching your characters, or writing short stories. Remember that writing a book is a slow journey, not a sprint. If you keep showing up for the work you love, you will absolutely start seeing those dreams come true, bit by bit. More than anything, remember this: If you write what you love, the readers will feel it too.” _ Erin Martinez
