Description

THE DOCTOR IS FINALLY IN is an intimate look at the author’s journey of pursuing not only a dream but a calling to “the study of the best creation ever made—human life.” She weaves into her journey the power of friendship and family, the necessity of taking care of yourself, the appreciation of the enormity of small things, the value of time, the treasure of good teachers, and the resilience of Filipinos. It is a good read for aspiring doctors because she deals with the struggle of DAILY answering the questions “Is this my calling?” and “Am I good enough?”  I love the way she associated the anatomical areas of the human body with her challenges and achievements because it gives added value to readers without medical backgrounds. At the end of each chapter, she reflectively answers these questions of how her specific circumstance fits into her pursuit and develops it into “A Doctor’s Advice”, a creative oxymoron because of its subjectiveness. Reading it takes me back to my early days in med school, and the author is wise to document her experiences because this would have been a great help to me as a student.

Not everyone can be a doctor, and not every doctor can be a GOOD one. But with this book, the author clearly shows that she is on her way to becoming one of the BEST ones. Congratulations, Jervy!
